The Cock And The Pearl by Aesop
Summary: Aesop writes of a cock that finds nothing special about a special item only in the eyes of "men".
Characters:
- A Cock (Rooster) - Finds Pearl in straw
Section One:
- A cock that is taking care of the hens finds a shiny item among the straw.
- The same cock finds out that it is a pearl and is only "treasure" to "men"
- The cock find that the pearl is worthless to him and would rather have food in place of many pearls
Other Notes:
- It seems that Aesop is telling his audience that one must prize something in order for it to be "precious"
- The cock seems to have wisdom beyond that of some people even if it is found in the confines of a farmyard
- Also rooted in this fable is that some things are not what they seem as we see in the beginning the cock says 'that's for me'
